Custom Cabinets for University’s new Laboratories.

OLP delivered a customised storage solution for the University of Sydney.

The university required customised storage cabinets for a number of new laboratories located in its School of Life, Earth and Environmental Sciences building. The new, state-of-the-art labs will be used for teaching and research.

In all, OLP manufactured 314 customised cabinets with various specifications including one door cabinets and four and five drawer cabinets.  The finish and handles of the cabinets had to comply with the requirements of a Physical Containment Level 2 (PC2) Laboratory.  This was to make sure they are resistant to disinfectants commonly used in laboratories.  A chemical resistant and impermeable surface were achieved using a polyurethane finish in our manufacturing process. Additionally, D- shaped handles were used as they can be decontaminated more easily and effectively than recessed handles. Further to the university’s requirements was the request for no black rubber castors, to avoid streaks on the vinyl floor.  Soft wheel, no-marking castors were used instead.

Special care was taken to ensure there were no exposed edges of surfaces that could harbour the growth of foreign organisms which could contaminate the controlled lab environments.  We were delighted to be able to meet the needs of our client and the University and to provide storage for the new labs which will be used for teaching and important research for many years to come.

This job reinforces OLP’s commitment to providing our clients with the most fit-for-purpose products. Most of OLP’s products can be customised and if you can’t find a piece that you’re looking for, we will design it.
